This US brief explores asset-building strategies, drawing on the suggestions from a roundtable of asset, education, housing, and retirement policy experts. Policies to combat poverty and build wealth should account for people's needs and abilities to acquire assets over a lifetime. The paper looks at typical saving patterns over the life cycle and recommends ways to craft more integrated wealth-building policies.
